Suzette is a visiting professor of patient safety at Imperial College and a freelance consultant. A former paediatric intensive care nurse with over 40 years in the NHS and 20 years working in patient safety at a national level, she has held executive board posts at the National Patient Safety Agency and NHS Resolution and advisory roles with Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England. She has a Doctorate in Patient Safety and a masters in clinical risk and has written two books on patient safety.

Perinatal Mental Health Champions Training (MDT)
The introduction of the Perinatal Mental Health Champion Group is designed to build advocacy for Perinatal Mental Health amongst the maternity workforce, to develop an understanding of the evidence around Perinatal Mental Health and equip the Champions with the knowledge and resources to signpost appropriately.

12Attributes of a Perinatal Mental Health Champion include:
The training to join the Perinatal Mental Health Champion Group will span one whole day and will cover the following topic areas:
Who can join the Perinatal Mental Health Champion Group?
There are no restrictions on who can be a Champion; however you must be able to attend a full days training (at PAH) and then commit at least one supervision session within every 12 month period, the supervision sessions will be held on a monthly basis at PAH.

Who can join the Perinatal Mental Health Champion Group?

This engaging study day for MSWs has been developed by the Perinatal Mental Health Network in Wessex.
The training is aimed at equipping maternity support workers to feel more confident about their communication skills with women in the peri natal period who may be experiencing the range of mental health issues from mild to moderate illnesses to the more serious. The day will give the attendees knowledge and up to date relevant information about peri natal mental health issues and treatments.
Its about getting behind the “Im fine” reply and when to pass on concerns. Its about understanding our own and other communication styles.
The day will include a mixture of presentations and speakers, group work and interactive exercises and open discussions. Women with lived experience will talk about their experiences and their feedback on what helped them open up about their issues.
Lunch and refreshment provided.
The venue is near a train station. There is pay for parking near by, please see attached location information.

This RCM accredited study day, provided by the Down’s Syndrome Association, is for all health professionals working in foetal medicine, maternity and neonatal services including midwives, nurses, paediatricians, sonographers and health visitors.

This RCM accredited study day, provided by the Down’s Syndrome Association, is for all health professionals working in foetal medicine, maternity and neonatal services including midwives, nurses, paediatricians, sonographers and health visitors.
About the day
Specific learning outcomes for the day are to ensure that delegates are best equipped to support parents, in-line with their professional guidelines (NICE, 2008) and care pathways.
Tell it Right aims to provide information about:
- Down’s syndrome that is balanced, accurate and up-to-date
- How best to support expectant parents through the screening process
- How best to impart information to parents and families, following a pre/post-natal diagnosis of Down’s syndrome
- Some common issues which may affect a baby with Down’s syndrome in the early weeks of life.
- The decision making process related to screening
- The parents’ perspective
- Life for a person with Down’s syndrome
also by a person with Down’s syndrome who will talk about their life.
